Outer Islands

The outer islands are islands that exist beyond the mainland in the Overworld.

Generation

There are currently 25 outer islands in the Overworld:

Each island contains exactly one Rift. The Rift drops a Region Map filled in with the entire island the first time it is discovered by each Journey. Rifts on outer islands are named after the biome of the island, for example Resin ____ for pale garden islands.

Islands may contain a select variety of structures dependent on the island’s biome. Trial chambers do not spawn on outer islands.

A single island consists of only one biome. Each island fits within a Region Map, making the upper size limit 2048 by 2048 blocks.

For each new biome Minecraft adds which is not already present in the Overworld’s 1.20.4 mainland, new islands will generate.

Discovery

Wisps that spawn near mainland Rifts open portals to the outer islands. Wisps always open a portal to an outer island Rift whose creature name matches the Rift the Wisp spawned at.
